They stay busy between loyal customers and carry out orders and after you try a slice of their square pizza (sub meat sauce) you’ll understand why.

Definitely my go to place when I’m craving anything Italian and especially if I’m in need of pizza!

Home decor ideas for under $100

A lot of times we just have naptime, or a few hours to work on a room. So here are some fun ideas that are inexpensive too.

1. Copycat Décor. When you’re flipping through magazines, cut  out pictures of your favorite rooms and then duplicate the look for less! Garage sales, flea markets and consignment shops are a budget decorators dream!

2. Rearrange. Remember how much fun it was to rearrange your bedroom when you were little? Have some fun and refresh a room by simply rearranging the furniture. It’s FREE!

3. Paint. A coat of paint is an inexpensive way to change the look of a room! Thanks to new software programs, most paint stores can take a photo of your room and show you how it will look in different colors.

4. Pillows. Add new throw pillows to your sofa or bed for a cozy and welcoming addition. You may want to consider changing your throw  pillows to reflect the season. Try discount stores for great prices!

5. Knobs & Pulls. Change your cabinet knobs and drawer pulls in your kitchen and bathroom for an instant update!

6. Lamps. Add a lamp to your kitchen & bathroom counters for nice change from the harsh overhead lights. Every room looks better in lamp light! You can find great deals on lamps if you use a coupon at Michael’s, or a home décor store. You can usually get about 40%-50% off.

7. Do your own wainscoting on one accent wall. This is a really cool thing to do in an office, or even in your kitchen. It’s on of those inexpensive projects to do yourself, but a little more time consuming.

8. Do a picture collage. This is a good way to make good use of frames and odd sized pictures you like, but don’t have a place for them. You can use a things that aren’t just pictures either.

9. Hang up a shelf, and decorate with pictures. If you only have small shelves you can do them in a cluster by each other, and it acts as one large wall hanging.

How to arrange your furniture

Deciding on furniture and laying it out can be tough, it’s even harder if the room is small or odd shaped.

First decide on what the main use of the room will be (social gathering, t.v. and playroom, etc). Then decide on the focal point. Is there a fire place, a nice bay window, or this could also be where the t.v. is hung).

I usually like to place the largest piece of furniture so it faces the focal point and then work from there.

You want to keep flow of traffic in mind. Try not to block off door ways, it can make a room feel much smaller and uninviting.

If you are planning to sell, you should definitely consider reevaluating your layout.  You want each room to look as big as possible so taking out one of your sofas or rearranging them could make a world of difference.

 

The BIG why

Just about every real estate class mentions your BIG why. It is the reason you get out of bed and go to work, the reason, you fight to be the best. Everyone should have this, not just agents. Now, obviously when you are in charge of your schedule and income, you definitely need an added reminder as to why you should get up and get out there.

This was my dream board I made last year when I started. I keep it in my office because I like the reminder. After my signs arrived today, the reason I took the photo above, I realized my dream board was growing.

Keeping a positive mindset is important. Appreciate every. single. day. Why? Because you are here. If you don’t like something in your life, then change it. Your happiness effects everything. Your physical health, you friends, and family.

My mother was telling me a story about a coworker, smart guy, but always complains about work, says it doesn’t matter. He doesn’t care. I told her the next time he says this to tell him, “I know, it shows”.

Why show up if you’re not mentally clocked in? Make your changes. Baby steps if you have to. But things definitely get better when you work towards the positive.

Bucharest is being forced to move

 

One of the most popular places to get a shawarma in downtown Detroit says it’s being forced to move.

“This is not our choice,” Bucharest Grill owner Bogdan Tarasov said. “I know there’s a lot of disappointed people.”

The fast-casual Middle Eastern restaurant, currently operating inside the Park Bar at 2040 Park Ave. near the Fillmore Detroit, will move to a shopping center in the 2600 block of East Jefferson, east of downtown, by the end of February.

Tarasov said he was given notice of the move about three months ago, as the landlord has other plans for the space.

Tarasov looked at moving to other spaces downtown, but it wasn’t feasible as leasing rates were “extremely expensive,” there weren’t enough parking options for employees and a convenient carry-out location was needed, he said. He also didn’t want to raise prices. A chicken shawarma at the restaurant is $4.99, according to theBucharest website.

The Park Bar location is where Bucharest Grill got its start in 2006. It’s become a destination for people going to Tigers and Lions games or concerts, as well as nearby residents. Many nights, the line of people waiting in the relatively small carryout space overflows into the bar area.

“We’ve had a lot of success over there,” he said. “We’ve built our name. Everything starts from that corner.”

Carrie Fisher stands up to ‘Critics’

As a new fan of Star Wars (Seriously, I watched all movies in the last two and half months, including a hunt to find the 6th episode before watching the 7th). I find it disappointing that this is what people choose to talk about. It doesn’t necessarily surprise me, but it still bothers me that people have to be so negative and ultimately sexist. Couldn’t we instead appreciate seeing original cast members fitting into a pretty good story line?

Carrie Fisher has hit out at social media trolls who have criticised her appearance in the new Star Wars film, The Force Awakens.

Posting on Twitter on Tuesday, the 59-year-old actor lamented fellow users’ inability to focus on more meaningful aspects of her return to the role of Leia Organa – now a general rather than a princess – for the first time since Return of the Jedi in 1983.

“Please stop debating about whether or not I aged well,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, it hurts all three of my feelings. My body hasn’t aged as well as I have. Blow us.”

Fisher later added: “Youth and beauty are not accomplishments, they’re the temporary happy by-products of time and/or DNA. Don’t hold your breath for either.”
The actor, who has made a hugely successful career as a writer and comic in the wake of her early Star Wars fame, argued that her physical appearance should not be used to define her, adding: “My body is my brain bag, it hauls me around to those places and in front of faces where there’s something to say or see.”

Some noted that the writer and comic’s male co-stars from the original Star Wars trilogy, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill, have faced fewer comments about their appearance in JJ Abrams’ critically acclaimed film. But other Twitter users fired abusive barbs – or told Fisher that as a public figure, she should be prepared for negative comments in the online arena.

Earlier this month, Fisher said she felt pressured to lose weight in order to reprise her role as Organa. The actor said she had felt an obligation to lose 16kg (2st 7lb), and lamented a film industry that “treats beauty like an accomplishment”. Such attitudes, she said, were “insane”.

The actor has proved one of the more colourful figures on the promotional trail for Abrams’ film, in the first new Star Wars film in a decade. She turned the air blue on the Hollywood red carpet for the world premiere of The Force Awakens on 14 December, and has warned young British star Daisy Ridley not to allow producers to exploit her sexuality.

“You should fight for your outfit,” she told the 23-year-old actor during a Q&A for Interview magazine, in reference to the gold bikini that Fisher was asked to wear in Return of the Jedi. “Don’t be a slave like I was.”

Fisher, who was just 19 when she filmed 1977’s Star Wars, also handed further advice to Ridley at the London press conference for The Force Awakens on 17 December. She told the young actor, who plays staff-wielding scavenger Rey: “Don’t go through the crew like wildfire.”

The Force Awakens remains on course to challenge Avatar’s all-time $2.78bn (£1.87bn) box-office world record, and currently stands in tenth place in the pantheon of highest grossing films with $1.16bn. In the US and Canada, it passed The Dark Knight, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and the original 1977 Star Wars to enter the all-time top five at the North American box office on Monday with receipts of $571m.

The new film, which is also tipped to be a part of the 2016 Oscars race, is expected to pass Avatar’s record $760m North American haul as early as this weekend.

Chef Kate Williams Next Move

 

Excited to see what Chef Kate brings to the table. We have dined at Republic and enjoyed everything they had to offer. This building has so much potential. Like her, I am a fan of the garage, little out of the ordinary feel.

You might expect chef Kate Williams to open her future restaurant, the sweetly named Lady of the House, in a stately Victorian or a lace-curtained bungalow. But Williams, former chef of the high-profile Republic restaurant in downtown Detroit, has never been the predictable type.

So it should come as no surprise that her intended location, revealed this week, is an old cinder-block garage with a curving yellow front, surrounded by a chain-link fence at 14th and Perry streets in North Corktown.

She noticed the place when she moved into the neighborhood seven months before Republic opened, she says, and despite its outward appearance, found love at first sight.  “I said, ‘That’s my restaurant. That’s what I want to be in,’ ” she recalls.

The ambitious, tavern-like Republic opened after lengthy delays last February in the restored Grand Army of the Republic building at Cass and Grand River. Williams left suddenly three months later, saying she wanted to pursue another opportunity, but both she and Republic’s owners said they parted on good terms.

Until this week, she had kept details of her next plans under wraps.

Lady of the House will be a smaller, more personal project than Republic, she says. “I want it to be like my dining room. It’s why I like to cook and be in this industry — I wanted to be the ultimate hostess, to have people come and break bread together,” she says.

Including the small bar, the restaurant will seat no more than 40. “It’s a very unique concept. The business model doesn’t work unless it’s sort of an intimate setting,” she says. The menu will be her kind of food:  “local and farm-based, with a European influence.  … My style is kind of rustic-elegant  — not casual dining but not white tablecloth.”

Lady of the House will occupy about half of the 4,000-square-foot building, including a rounded corner room with tall windows, now hidden by panels of welded-metal triangles. An extra-tall front garage door can be opened to connect the interior to a large front patio. The rounded corner space will become a bar and café that opens earlier than the dining room to serve drinks and snacks, she says. The kitchen will be open to diners’ view.

Williams was never interested in locating in Midtown or downtown; she preferred to open in her neighborhood, she says. “North Corktown doesn’t have many places to eat, and there are a lot of people who live here. It (will be) a place for the neighborhood to come and enjoy themselves.”

The project is still in the rezoning process, she said, and she is working with architects to see what work the building will need. She hopes to hope as early as July.

Condo Proposal in Grosse Pointe Shores

 

The developer wants 35 new condos placed on an 8-acre site. Near by residents are opposed to placing condos on this estate, for fear that it would change the look and feel of the neighborhood. They would high end units, possible ranging $800,000 or more to purchase. According to the developer, some residents that are interested in downsizing would be interested in purchasing such condos.

I am aware that there are families in Grosse Pointe, that do want to downsize but want to remain in the city. So I can see the value in offering them such a thing. However, being a resident here (the park) I must say I absolutely love the beauty and charm that our homes have now. I don’t think condos are able to carry that on.

Many pets under one roof

  
I’m not sure how we wound up with 3 pets. Well, technically I do, but it wasn’t part of the plan. There are plenty of times I am frustrated with at least one of them. However when you catch all three cuddled up together, it just gives you the warm and fuzzies.

If your going to have “man’s best friend” then your other friend should be vinegar. I use vinegar for lots of cleaning jobs. It’s great to help clean up and remove the scent of urine. I mix vinegar, water, and a few drops of peppermint oil to clean, freshen up the furniture and BONUS deter spiders (they don’t like the smell of peppermint)
